Featured Shop of the Week: KateeMarie

Some of the best partnerships come out of a little rivalry!  Such is the case of this week's featured artist, Katie of KateeMarie, who married her High School sweetheart nearly 18 years ago. Although they lived on opposite sides of the city of Aurora, IL, they attended the same private school and fell in love.
After High School, they both attended NIU in DeKalb, IL. Because of her love of rocks, and the wisdom of her mom, who told her to study what she loves, Katie turned her studies to Geology.
In 1996, Katie married her sweetheart and they got their first baby as a shower gift.  She was covered in fur and they named her Oreo. The baby of which I refer is a beloved cat, and she is still alive and well!  They added another cat, Zeeb, who is now almost 14 years old. Sadly, Zeeb has kidney cancer, but has fought well and is 2 years past his diagnosis.
To round out the furry members of the family, Pumpkin Apricot Spice, the hamster, was added to the mix just this year.

Katie is a stay-at-home mom to her 3 beautiful children. Annalise is their beautiful daughter, and is 11 years old. She also has 2 handsome sons, Aidan who is 9 and Asher, who just turned 7 in June. They are choice blessings to Katie!

Crafting and DIY projects are passions for Katie.  She and her hubby installed hardwood floors in their home recently. She says she got a rather late start on things like crochet, which her mom taught her when she was 25 years old. She made her first quilt at age 29. Her interest has always been jewelry. Katie used to make her own beads with Fimo clay, and would then create jewelry with her designs.

These beautiful earrings are an example of her skills and what a great talent! It is obvious that Katie enjoys her craft.

Katie's Etsy shop started as a hobby.  She had made a baby quilt for a friend who said, "you should sell these."  That was in 2009, and although she still quilts, she finds that she can make jewelry much more quickly and has been going strong ever since! Her goal is to always be able to stay at home with her kids, rather than working for someone else.  Her Etsy shop has allowed her to have an income and she recently was offered a display case in a local store. It's too soon to tell how that will pan out, but she's hoping it will do well.

One of Katie's signature creations is her pressed flower pendants.

"I love my pressed flower pendants, they are my passion! I love nature and the beauty of flowers. I press many of the flowers that I use in my designs but have been purchasing some flowers that hard to get in my area."

Recently, Katie has added a few new elements to her Etsy shop.

This adorable scarf is one example.

"I still enjoy crocheting; it's relaxing and mindless (which I need!)."

Katie also enjoys blogging and keeping up with her Facebook page. You can find her here:

Finally, I asked Katie to share her favorite piece of advice or an inspirational thought. Hers comes from the Bible:

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
